The research focuses on the challenges faced by the general public in affording professional interior designers. With design fees typically amounting to 30% of the total cost, many are priced out of hiring experts. Additionally, the current design process is highly inefficient, requiring multiple rounds of back-and-forth communication, leading to time loss and higher expenses. This field study aims to capture these pain points and explore potential solutions for more accessible and streamlined design processes in the future.

Through user interviews and journey mapping, the research highlights the challenges faced by middle-income homeowners and interior designers in the design process. Homeowners struggle with decision overload, budget constraints, and unclear cost projections, while designers face the burden of extensive client consultations and limited time for creative work. These pain points suggest a clear opportunity for AI to streamline communication, offer affordable solutions, and support efficient, personalized design experiences.

By using Python, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and leveraging the OpenAI API, facilitates initial consultations and conceptual design, providing personalized design recommendations. This project is selected to be presented at Harvard 2023 Mediums Design Final Review.
